On the occasion of the World Day to Combat Sickle Cell Disease, IECD is launching a new documentary entitled "Sickle-cell anemia in Africa - a daily struggle against an invisible disease"

At a time when the gene therapy gives in France a credible basis for greater hopes for a cure of Sickle-cell disease, the sick of African countries die before they get the chance to be diagnose. In Sub-Saharan countries, 3 children suffering from Sickle-cell disease out of 4 don’t reach the age of 5! However, an early diagnosis and an appropriate care can reduce these risks considerably the mortality risk. The IECD support the stakeholders in the fight against Sickle-cell disease in Africa since 2006 in RDC, in Madagascar, in Cameroon and in Congo.
